Spread

Yellowstar thistle was introduced to California around 1850 as a seed contaminant in alfalfa.

It spread to other states twenty years later and expanded rapidly in grassland areas.

Today it is estimated to be spreading at a rate of up to 50,000 acres per year and it now occurs in 23 of 48 continental states.
