There is no effective
means of controlling zebra mussels. Prevention of further spread
is key to minimizing its impacts.
Zebra mussels are physically removed from coated surfaces, such
as water intake pipes, as needed.
Boats that travel between bodies of water must be cleaned to prevent
transferring mussels on their hulls.
Zebra mussel larvae can hide in water storage compartments and live
wells on boats. These should be drained before moving the boat as
a preventative measure.
