There are two
races of gypsy moth, one from Asia and the other from Europe.
The European gypsy moth was
intentionally introduced to
United States in 1868 by an amateur entomologist.
The Asian gypsy moth has been collected in British Columbia, Canada,
since 1978. However, this pest has not permanently established there
because of effective monitoring and eradication programs.
