Asian tiger mosquitoes are "container breeders". Almost
any container that holds water, such as used tires, tree holes,
tin cans, and bottles, is suitable for breeding.
Mating occurs shortly after
adults emerge from breeding sites.
Females take a
"blood meal" and
then deposit 40 to 150 eggs along the sides of the container, just
above the surface of the water. This cycle of blood feeding and
egg laying continues, about once per week, throughout the mosquito's
life span.
Mosquito larvae
go through four
growth stages. An
adult's life span ranges from a few days to weeks, depends on weather
conditions.
